Well, that didn’t end at all how I wanted it. Jays were coming into this game with the series win already but the sweep would have been so sweet.
The game started less than ideal when Gardner singled and made it to third base after a throwing error by Martin. However, that would be the only run Happ would give up until 8thwhen he gave a solo homerun to Hicks. Biagini and Cecil would both come in to finish off the inning and really things seemed all nice and rosy, albeit with a 1 run lead.
Going into the bottom of the 8th the Jays had scored 3 runs for Happ. The first run was from a bases loaded walk by Martin to score in Donaldson. In the 3rd Tulo then hit a go ahead double that brought Bautista home. Saunders would then pad the lead by hitting a single to score in Martin. With only 3 more outs needed it would have been nice to score a couple more runs, and if only they knew how much they would need that.
Osuna unavailable, meant Grilli had the ninth. He got Headley quickly but would allow 4 straight hits and 2 runs to score after. He was yanked out of the game for Barnes who then allow the inherited runners to score as well and by the end of the inning the Jays were down by four.
The bottom of the ninth was quite exciting though. Smoak, Pillar, and Barney loaded the bases for Donaldson. Although Donaldson flew out and was unable to bring in any runs Encarnacion walked to score in one. Navarro then looped a ball to shallow centre field to score in another run bringing the Jays to only being down 2 runs. Unfortunately, this would be all the rally they could muster but it was exciting to see the Jays not giving up.
What was not nice to see was the baseball brawl. Baseball brawls are stupid, and two are super stupid, and this one could have probably been avoided if the Jays decided not to retaliate after Donaldson was hit by Severino in the 1st. But instead Happ hit Headley in the 2nd which cause the umps to warn both benches and cause both benches to clear, and in the bottom of that inning Severino didn’t even try to hide that he was intentionally trying to hit Smoak causing the second bench clearing brawl.
It sucked we lost, it sucks Grilli pitched terribly, it sucks that people were hit, and it really sucks that Benoit and Travis seems to both be hurt because of that super sucky brawl. But the Jays have won the series and we still hold the 1st wild card so I guess there’s that.
Joaquin Benoit hurt his calf; Devon Travis hurt his shoulder. They’re both being evaluated as we speak.

Tulo smile alert! And my god, look at that.
This conversation is pretty much why retaliation was not needed (yes I’m directing this to Happ).
I’m pretty Josh is just trolling now.
Tulo & JD going full dad mode on who else but baby Devo.
Now that’s a man who’s feelings are hurt.
