This all old news but here we go.
On Monday it was announced that Jays signed Steve Pearce to a 2 year contract,
#BlueJays announce $12.5m, two-yr deal for Steve Pearce. Certainly that’s the end for EE in Toronto— Shi Davidi (@ShiDavidi)
Pearce is a utility player that has experience playing in all three outfield positions, and also first, second, and third base. He’s a reliable righty bench bat with power hitting at least 15 HR in the past three seasons without really being a full time player.
If you feel like you kinda missed his name during the Wild Card Game, you’re not wrong. He ended the season on the disable list for a right flexor mass strain.
Pearce kinda murders lefties and we’ll probably be in platoon role with Smoak. But dear god, I do hope it’s not a straight up platoon and instead more like the Smoakabello combo of 2015. Pearce splits heavily favour him against lefties but man his numbers against righties are so much better than Smoak’s.
Speaking of Smoabello, I sadly report that Chris Colabello is officially no longer a Blue Jays. As I explained on my last Update Cola could reject an outright assignment because of the length of his service time and he has. For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you’ve already seen my Tribute, but I’ll post it on here as well after I write this up.
Chris Colabello elects free agency rather than taking outright assignment from #BlueJays.— Shi Davidi (@ShiDavidi)
Another goodbye we have to say is to Joaquin Benoit who’s 1 year contract with the Phillies was officially announced today. Isn’t the offseason fun…
