Oh boy, this game. It certainly was not a boring game.
The game was started by Matt Latos. He did okay, and at least didn’t dig a hole for the offense that they couldn’t come out off. He pitched 5 innings and gave up 4 runs all earned on 6 hits. The big 3 in the bullpen have been used 2 days in a row so it was pretty thin down there but all seemed good as the Jays went into the bottom of the ninth with the lead. But Leone had a other plans and blew the save that would lead us to four more innings of baseball. Fortunately, Ryan Tepera, who I should admit, I’m not a big fan off, decided to be a hero and pitched THREE scoreless innings to keep the Jays in the game and me away from my bed.
In top of the 13th old friend and supposed to be Sunday starter, Jesse Chavez, came in to face his old team. With two outs Pillar came to the plate searching to extend his hitting streak and boy did he with a single to centre field. Zeke then followed him with another single nicely setting everything up for Bautista. On the third pitch Chavez threw to him Bautista reminded everyone why we love him and hit a beautiful three run homerun, his first of 2017.
It was beautiful. I may have cried.
Bottom of the 13th the ball was given to Loup to close out the game. He was facing the Angels 7-8-9 hitter, what could go wrong. Oh boy… To be fair, most of it wasn’t his fault. Two seperate ground balls was dropped by Smoak and Coghlan and Loup himself walked a batter to load the bases for the top of the order with 0 outs.
Again, the big 3 was not supposed to pitch this game but the Jays needs a win and Gibby brought in Biagini to finish it off. After striking out another Cliff Pennington, Biagini allowed the next two to reach by giving up a single to Calhoun and hitting Trout and allowing 2 runs to score and cutting the Jays lead down to 1. But with some tremendous pitches Biagini got out of it and earned the save and the Jays their forth win.
Important note on this game is Troy Tulowitzki who left the game because of an injury. I don’t know about you but this team cannot afford to lose any more bats.
